American Airlines Cancel 850 Flights for Analysis

On Wednesday April 9, 2008, American Airlines told the press that they canceled about 850 flights for inspections to structure more appropriate safety measures. The inspections started on tuesday where about 460 MD-80's was being properly checked and maintances on for safety issues. Now about 45 MD-80's is said by airline professionals to be in the air later on today.

American, the largest U.S. airline, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Federal Aviation Administration raised new concerns about the latest wiring inspections of the narrowbody MD-80 aircraft's wheel wells and the direction in which the retention clips and lacing cords were facing that resulted in canceled flights about two weeks ago. About nearly half of AMR's fleet are MD-80s aircrafts.
